Artistic Influences on Michelangelo
Though Michelangelo was a self-proclaimed ‘genius’ in reference to his art he had many artistic influences on his work. The masterpieces surrounding Michelangelo were possibly his best teachers. The work of early Renaissance masters such as Ghiberti, Ghilandaio, and Giovianni made an impact on the young Michelangelo who preferred to draw instead of doing his school work, much to his father’s disapproval. Learn about how each of these artists influenced Michelangelo:
Lorenzo Ghiberti
Domenico Ghirlandaio
Bertoldo di Giovanni
